Dr Nathaniel PowellAnalyst, Africa
Nathaniel joined Oxford Analytica in June 2021 and covers West and Southern Africa, in particular government politicking, elections, wars, and economic concerns. Previously, Nathaniel has worked in the humanitarian and cultural heritage sectors. He also taught Cold War and African history at Lancaster University and College of the Holy Cross as a visiting lecturer, and Intelligence Studies seminars at Kings College London. He has also taught history in London secondary schools.
His previous work has focused on French security policy in Africa, military interventions, rebellions and civil wars.
Nathaniel holds a PhD in International History and Politics and an MA in International Studies from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), Geneva. He also holds a BA in Political Science and French Literature from the University of Rochester.
His book, France’s Wars in Chad: Military Intervention and Decolonization in Africa, was recently published with Cambridge University Press.
