The US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan makes a port call in South Korea's southern city of Pusan. A US forces spokesman says that the visit has nothing to do with exercises planned for August, or the recent shooting of a South Korean tourist in North Korea (South Korean news agency Yonhap).

ASEAN Meeting
A ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meets in Singapore. North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun and his US counterpart Condoleezza Rice are expected to attend various meetings on the sidelines, although neither side has confirmed that they are meeting. South Korea has proposed talks with North Korea but Pyongyang has is yet to respond. Japanese and North Korean delegates of the six-party talks may also meet. (South Korean news agency Yonhap).

Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir attends the fifth round of the India-Pakistan Composite Dialogue in New Delhi. Talks are to focus on peace, confidence-building measures and Kashmir.
