Headline risk

The risk has increased of an oil price shock, with oil reaching 135 dollars a barrel, and OPEC President Chakib Khelil indicating the cartel would not be increasing production in the face of high prices. Although new data points to slowing demand growth in the United States, insufficient investment and declining output from ageing fields may threaten long-term oil supply, even as stockpiles are drawn down, further tightening the market.
