In Tuesday, choose day, we wrote that the Republicans, rather than the Democrats, appeared poised to unite behind a front-runner after 'Super Tuesday'.

  • John McCain scored a decisive victory in the primary battle for the Republican presidential nomination, while the Democrats split between Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. The results leave McCain a prohibitive favourite for the Republican nomination while ensuring that the Democratic contest remains viable until early March at the earliest.

  • WTO members approved the accession agreement last week in Geneva.
  • Ukraine now has until July 4 to ratify the accord and will become a WTO member 30 days after that.
