Six world powers engaged in talks on Iran's disputed nuclear program will meet next week in Europe to discuss tightening UN sanctions on Tehran. Political directors from the UK, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States will meet on Wednesday although the exact time and place has not yet been finalised.

Pakistan and India will hold expert-level talks on conventional and nuclear confidence building measures (CBMs) in Delhi on Thursday, during which they are expected to firm up the two pending agreements on speedy return of inadvertent border crossers and incidents at sea.

A joint Israeli-Gazan surfing event will be held in Israel. The aim of the project is the promote peace between Israeli's and Palestinian's through surfing. Gaza's beaches are considered perfect for surfing; however, following Hamas' victory in Gaza, the beaches have remained largely empty of surfers.

Extraordinary meeting
The EU is scheduled to hold an extraordinary meeting on gas for member states to discuss the latest energy dispute between Ukraine and Russia. The meeting comes after a recent threat by Russian energy giant Gazprom to cut gas supplies to Ukraine. Representatives from both countries have been invited to attend.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is scheduled to visit Russia. Sarkozy is expected to take a tougher line in relations with Russia than his predecessor Jacques Chirac, especially with regard to human rights issues and the situation in North Caucasus provinces. But France has also said it wants to develop Russia's ties with the European Union when it assumes the rotating EU presidency in 2008.

Bernard Kouchner, Miguel Angel Moratinos and Massimo D'Alema, respectively the foreign ministers of France, Spain and Italy, are expected to visit Lebanon.
