Our original research also helps business development teams position their firms as thought leaders in target market areas.

Client team: Political risk

Issue: Willis Towers Watson and Oxford Analytica conducted structured interviews with executives at a cross-sector group of leading global firms with a strong track record in political risk management, to discover how leading companies are responding to recent tumultuous political events.

Engagement: One-hour structured interviews were conducted with twenty panellists. The majority were Forbes Global 500 companies. The firms represented a cross section of industries including food and beverages, oil and gas, mining, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and utilities. The companies are mainly headquartered in North America, Europe and Japan and have extensive global operations, including in “risky” countries.

Result: The survey found that investors are increasingly holding management accountable for losses experienced due to political risk exposure. Importantly, growing investor pressure to account for political risk exposure is likely to mean that companies will increasingly be compelled to benchmark such capabilities against their peers.

Issue: The client wanted to demonstrate intellectual and practical leadership in finding and retaining talent in a competitive environment.

Engagement: Sponsorship of our annual conference, Global Horizons, and the sponsorship of a specific panel titled ‘Winning the 21st Century Global Talent War’ which featured key findings from the client's own work and expert opinions from fellow panellists.  We organised videos and one-on-one interviews with media partners for client use on social media and other platforms, and the client was able to publicise and distribute published material at the conference itself.

Result: EgonZehnder publicised its intellectual ownership of this issue among business leaders at the conference and used the intellectual capital generated at Global Horizons to reinforce their brand in the wider world.

Client team: Marketing and Business Development

Issue: Hogan Lovells wanted to develop their Africa practice.

Engagement: Our Advisory thought leadership team created a report on how regulation and governance shape investor experiences and business success across sub-Saharan Africa, with trend analysis on the influence of political, economic and social factors on investment in the mining, power and private equity sectors. Result: Launched at Hogan Lovell's Africa Forum, our work was featured in a global roadshow showcasing the firm's Africa credentials.

Issue: Which cities and regions are driving innovation and growth, and what global links are developing between these clusters?

Engagement: Analysis on economic activity in cities and regions from our Advisory macro strategy team

Result: Our study enhanced partner conversations with their clients and prospects about new trade and business linkages that are emerging.

Issue: What are the different scenarios in which geopolitical developments could affect the global business landscape over the next decade?

Engagement: Our Principal, Graham Hutchings, gave an expert briefing to the firm's partners retreat in the United States in which he discussed issues ranging from possible trajectories of US foreign policy to the emergence of a global middle class.

Result: The partners drew on the key themes identified in our engagement for their strategic planning sessions.
