Juan Garin

Director of Consulting

Joined Oxford Analytica in 2000. He has overseen and managed dozens of consulting engagements that support strategy formulation through the provision of political and economic analysis for both government and business. He specialises in applying tools such as scenario planning and stakeholder analysis to addressing the relationship between politics, policy and business.  He is also an Associate Fellow at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, where he lectures in the MBA programme on managing business-state relations and international political risk. Previously, he worked as a project manager and consulting engineer on numerous large engineering projects in North America and Asia. Graduate of Hertford College, University of Oxford (MBA, 1999) and Beng, Concordia University, Montreal.

Kerry Boyd Anderson

Associate Director

Based in the Washington, DC office, recent projects have included a strategic review of a Gulf state financial sector, a study on Iranian power structures, a conference on self-starter terrorist cells in Europe, and analysis of global perceptions of the United States. Prior to joining Oxford Analytica, Kerry worked in Washington, DC, covering issues related to weapons of mass destruction and terrorism. She has also conducted field research on Palestinian democratisation and Middle East security issues. MSc in International Relations (2004), London School of Economics and Political Science. BA in Global Studies (2000), University of Iowa.

Sam Wilkin

Associate Director

Currently responsible for political and country risk at Oxford Analytica. Previous work experience includes: Founder and Editor in Chief of Countryrisk.com; Country Risk Adviser and US Head of Political Risk Consulting with Aon Corporation; and Director of Country Analysis with Marvin Zonis & Associates, Chicago. Co-author of “The Kimchi Matters: Global Business and Local Politics in a Crisis-Driven World” (Agate, 2003) and editor of “Country and Political Risk: Practical Insights for Global Finance” (Risk Books, 2004). M.A. in International Relations from the University of Chicago and B.A. in Economics from Eckerd College.

Mark Elsner

Managing Consultant

Based at Oxford Analytica’s Washington, DC office, recent projects have included a 10-year outlook for the oil price, and a 5-year scenario for global trade. He is a regular contributor to the Oxford Analytica Daily Brief, on the international economy and Latin America, particularly Colombia and Venezuela. Prior to joining Oxford Analytica, Mark worked as a strategy consultant in London, Paris and Berlin and also undertook internships at the World Bank and SAP AG. MPhil in Economics (2000), Christ Church, University of Oxford. MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (1998), Christ Church, University of Oxford.

Giles Alston

Senior Consultant

Giles has been a part of Oxford Analytica as an employee or contributor for twenty years.  As an editor for the Daily Brief he has worked on the North America Desk; as a contributor, he continues to write for the Daily Brief on technology and regulatory issues; and now in the Consulting Practice he is responsible for quality control.  Based in the New York office, he has handled three of the company’s main joint venture projects, including its relationship with the New York Times. Elizabeth Barker

Senior Consultant

Focuses include early warning systems, migration policy, sustainability and international development issues. Recent projects at Oxford Analytica have included managing assessments of twenty-seven emerging market countries against internationally recognised standards in fiscal and monetary policy transparency, managing an early warning system on global risks and opportunities for a global financial services provider, assessing labour migration programmes and sustainability analysis for a global beverages company. Previous work experience in international development, specifically South Asia. B.A. in Economics (2001), University of Cambridge and M.Sc. in Economics for Development (2004), University of Oxford. Regular contributor to the Oxford Analytica Daily Brief.

Eva Natali Williams

Senior Consultant

Eva coordinates Oxford Analytica’s contribution to the Healthymagination initiative recently launched by GE to help reduce cost, expand access and improve quality of healthcare worldwide. Other projects Eva has managed at Oxford Analytica include an extensive analysis of political, economic and social factors affecting the spread of HIV/AIDS in Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and Central Asia; the construction of an index on labour migration policy; and the preparation of assessments of 27 emerging market countries against internationally recognised standards of transparency. Prior to joining Oxford Analytica, Eva worked at the World Bank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Multilateral Political Affairs and Human Rights General Directorate of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Eva holds a BA in Political Science (2002) from LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome and a MA in International Relations (2004) from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, Washington DC.

Daniel Russell

Senior Consultant

Recent projects include market entry studies covering a range of sectors including energy, infrastructure, financial services and consumer products. He is also responsible for the consulting practice's India analysis. Most recently Daniel Russell managed the production of the Oxford Analytica India State Index, a comparative analysis of India's states, providing policymakers and investors with a ranked assessment of local nuances and operational risks and opportunities. Before joining Oxford Analytica, Daniel Russell worked at The Hindu newspaper in India and as a researcher for online financial broadcaster Cantos in London. He was also Asia Pacific Editor at Oxford Analytica. Brought up and educated in India he holds a Masters in South Asian History from the University of Oxford, and a BA in History and Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Meysam Ahmadi

Consultant

Recent work includes research and quantitative analysis of human prosperity and life satisfaction on a global level. Previously assisted in creating a global risk map and managing an early warning system for a development bank. Further professional experience includes work for Oxford University's Office of International Strategy and web development and research for Queen Mary's, University of London. MPhil in Economics from Pembroke College, University of Oxford. First class BSc in Economics and Computer Science from the University of St Andrews.

Janika Albers

Consultant

Recent projects have included the construction of an index based on determinants of long-term economic growth and subjective wellbeing in more than 100 countries, including associated econometric analysis, and scenario planning for the long-term availability of raw materials for a multinational company with regard to prospective energy, agricultural and environmental policy. Has also been involved in several projects identifying opportunities and risks for clients in the financial services sector, including a market entry study and strategic early warning systems. Previous experience includes a position at an academic quarterly for international politics, evaluating institutional provisions for the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, and legal research in Cameroon through UNDP funds. BA in Philosophy and Economics (2004) from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and MA in International Relations and Quantitative Methods of International Economics (2007), Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, Washington DC. Has also studied in Brazil and Italy. Speaks German, French and Portuguese. Contributor to the Oxford Analytica Daily Brief.

Olivia Hamill

Consultant

Recent projects at Oxford Analytica include managing the quarterly production of a Political Risk Index which rates forty emerging market countries, assisting clients in elaborating their Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, organising a high-level conference and producing an analytical report on the top challenges in sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining Oxford Analytica, she was a research associate at the Scowcroft Group and the International Institute for Strategic Studies. She has carried out a project for the United Nations Human Security Unit and has worked on peacebuilding issues for International Alert. Fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian. BA in Political and Moral Philosophy (2004) from Université La Sorbonne and MA in International Affairs, major in Conflicts and Security (2006), from Sciences Po Paris.

Sarah Naimark

Consultant

Recent projects Sarah has worked on include a report on Russian-Ukrainian relations, an outlook for global economic recovery and market analysis for Russia and Eastern Europe. Prior to joining Oxford Analytica Sarah worked for a Zagreb-based NGO promoting democracy in Croatia, and has experience in journalism and marketing. Sarah received her MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (Washington DC and Bologna). She received her BA in Political Science and Italian Language from Stanford University.

Mark Harrison

Analyst

Mark joined Oxford Analytica in April 2010 but previously worked here as an intern on the global Prosperity Index in 2009. Since joining the team as a full-time consultant, Mark has worked on a project analysing infrastructure worldwide and a global business risk assessment project. Mark is a graduate of Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford.

Stina Warnstam

Analyst

Recent projects for Oxford Analytica include a survey of strategic risks to global business in 2009, and a monitoring service of energy industry trends and climate change legislation worldwide. Previous work experience includes an internship with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, a year as Programme Officer for the Europe Team at the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and an internship for Amnesty International. She has an MA in International Relations from Kings College London and a BA in International Relations from the University of Westminster.
