On 5 May 2005, a general election will be held in the UK, which could return the Labour Party for an historic third term. However, popular trust in Prime Minister Tony Blair’s leadership has waned, in part owing to the UK’s role in the Iraq war and his government’s record in improving public services. With an election campaign in full swing, the three main political parties are clashing over matters such as taxation, immigration and public finances. Nevertheless, no single issue will dominate this election.
