Senior Analyst, Middle East
Alison joined Oxford Analytica in 2011. She is responsible for Daily Brief coverage of the Middle East, including Iran and Turkey, and monitoring Middle East risks on the Global Risk Monitor.
During her time with the firm she has authored political risk reports on Iran and been involved with consultancy projects on job creation in the Gulf. In January 2013 she was selected to take part in the BBC’s first ‘Expert Women’ training scheme, and has done media interviews for the BBC, Voice of Russia and Sunday Times. Alison has lived in Syria and Lebanon, and is fluent in modern standard Arabic. She has particular interests in Arab media and civil society, and jihadist movements. She volunteers for the charity British-Arab Exchanges, which runs training and cultural exchange programmes for talented young people from the UK and Arab world.
Alison previously worked as an editor at BBC Monitoring, providing analysis of trends in the Arab media for government and commercial customers. Other roles include working as a producer for BBC World Service, and as a researcher at the Arab-British Chamber Commerce. She has also worked on consultancy projects for the European Commission. She graduated from St John’s College, University of Oxford, with a BA Hons in European and Middle Eastern languages (Arabic and German).
