Rolling Assumptions & Client Advisories

Oxford Analytica is the only provider of strategic political and economic analysis to make available to clients the underlying assumptions about global trends and events on which its analysis is based. These assumptions provide a coherent analytical framework, underpinning analysis in both the Daily Brief and services from our Consulting Practice. They constitute valuable predictive tools that help reduce the uncertainty of global developments and meet Oxford Analytica's goal of ensuring that clients face "no surprises."

Global Rolling Assumptions are monitored during the Editorial Conference held at Christ Church each morning and updated in the light of events by senior faculty from Oxford and other major universities, and Oxford Analytica's own professional analytical staff.

Initially, Rolling Assumptions are being published together with Country Profiles. Assumptions for over 50 countries and international organisations are currently available. More will follow.

Client Advisories

When Oxford Analytica changes one of its core Rolling Assumptions a Client Advisory will be immediately issued to clients, explaining the reason for the change. Clients may opt out.

CHINA:
25th April, 2005

This is to advise you that, in view of several weeks of popular demonstrations against Japan and protests over other domestic issues, we have revised our outlook for political stability in China.

Before today's revision our outlook was:

"Localised unrest may increase, as the social effects of uneven development play out. The political centre will remain relatively unaffected and stable. "

Our outlook now is:

The government is vulnerable to protests on a wide range of issues, and is seeking to clamp down on any further attempts to demonstrate against Japan. However, there is a risk that more serious unrest will occur, testing the authorities' ability to re-establish control.
