The Impact of Pre-Salt
Petrobras
The Issue
Petrobras asked us to help promote a better understanding of the outlook for Brazil’s oil & gas sector, given the recent discoveries of substantial new reserves and the impact these would have on the country’s economy.
The Approach
We analysed the implications of these reserves for Brazil against a forecast for oil prices over the next 20 years. We also considered the risks and opportunities associated with the proposed legal framework for governing exploitation of the new reserves. A key element of the outlook was our assessment of Brazil’s own service and supply industry for the oil and gas sector.
The Result
Our study enabled Petrobras to raise awareness of the long-term prospects for the Brazilian oil and gas sector. Our analysis of how the sector is likely to change has also helped Petrobras to position itself as a thought leader in this area by presenting this assessment to targeted stakeholders -- most importantly those who participated in its 2010 rights issue, the largest ever rights issue to date.
International Energy Company
The Issue
An international client investigating the renewable energy sector in a Middle Eastern country asked Oxford Analytica to provide analysis on the outlook for the sector and the broader political and economic environment.
The Approach
Our study assessed key political, security and economic risks in the country over the coming five years before providing an analysis of its energy production and renewables sector. Following delivery of the initial study, we also provided an interactive workshop with the client and experts and further reports that tracked developments in the country.
The Result
The project helped to inform the client’s decision on whether to extend its investment into the country.
The Indian Renewable Energy Market
A European renewable energy company
The Issue
A European renewable energy company was considering whether to expand its operations into India.
The Approach
We produced a study examining the market for renewables in India that covered wind, biomass, small hydro and biofuels. The study assessed the political, economic and regulatory environment surrounding the renewable energy sector in India before evaluating its prospects. It also provided an analysis of recent developments in the country’s electricity sector.
The Result
The client subsequently signed an MOU with a major Indian energy company to explore further cooperation.
Outlook for Iraq: Implications for the energy sector and KRG/Kirkuk
Commercial Energy Firm
The Issue
Our client was interested in the energy outlook for Iraq, especially around Kirkuk and in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) area.
The Approach
Our one-year outlook for Iraq focussed in particular on the energy sector and on Kirkuk and the KRG area but included analysis on security, political and economic issues in Iraq as a whole. It also offered an assessment of politics in the Kurdish areas, Kurdish relations with the central Iraqi government, and implications for oil and gas policy.
The Result
The client used the report as a central input into its decisions on investment opportunities in the region.
